This is the first Big 12 weekly award for Sauer and the second for Adams, who received the Defensive Player of the Week record on September 7 after her performance in the Red Raider Classic. Adams and Sauer are the first Red Raiders duo to get the offensive and defensive player honors of the week the same week.
Adams recorded 50 digs, averaging 5.0 per set over three games, earning Green Wave Invitational Defensive defensive MVP honors. The transfer of graduates led the Red Raiders in all three games with 14 against UAB, 15 against Tulane and 21 against Sam Houston. The libero also added a couple of aces and his first death of the season. Adams has posted double-digit digs in 11 of 13 games this season, three of which accounted for more than 20 performances.
The native of Mont Belvieu, Texas, leads the Big 12 in excavations (204) and excavations per game (4.64), ranking among the top 50 nationals in total excavations. He becomes the first Red Raider to win several Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week awards in a season since 2019 when Emerson Solano he won the honor twice.
Sauer added 49 deaths over the weekend, averaging 4.9 per set to earn MVP honors from the Green Wave invitational tournament. It ended the weekend with a 30-kill outing against Sam Houston, the first performance of 30 Red Raider kills since Emily Hill in 2019. Sauer averaged 7.5 kills per seven against the Bearkats while hitting .391 to help Tech with a four-set win and an undefeated weekend. In the Tech match against Tulane, Sauer reached the top run with four aces, as the Red Raiders added 11 in total to the match.
The Ankeny, Iowa native leads the Red Raiders in kills (130), kills per game (3.51), points (156) and points per game (4.22). It ranks among the top ten in the Big 12 in killings, ace by game and points.
