Amber Alert: 2 children abducted in East Texas, considered to be in serious danger

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) – East Texas authorities are looking for two children and the man they believe is responsible for their kidnapping Tuesday.

The Texas Department of Public Safety issued an amber alert for Ashlynn Wells, 10, and Desmond Wells III, 11, and it is suspected that Jesse Ray Schmidt, 32, was abducted.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office describes the children as:

  • Ashlynn Wells
    • 10 year old white girl
    • 5’2
    • 109 pounds
    • Blond hair
    • Blue eyes
    • Last seen in a peach t-shirt, peach shorts, gray / pink Nike shoes
    • It has holes, a scar on the right ring finger and a black mark on the left thigh
  • Desmond Wells III
    • 11 year old white boy
    • 5’5
    • 154 pounds
    • Blond hair
    • Brown eyes
    • Last seen in a blue / black t-shirt, gray shorts, Wolverine hiking boots
    • He has a scar on his left cane

Schmidt is a white man with brown hair and brown eyes. It is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He was last seen driving a black 2012 Honda Civic with Texas BNX6155 license plates. He was last seen in Rusk, Texas, northeast of Nagodoches.
