Red Raiders travels to the state of New Mexico to participate in an exhibition match

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball will hit the court for the first time this season in an exhibition match against the state of New Mexico on Saturday afternoon in Las Cruces.

“I’m really looking forward to the trip to Las Cruces and getting started this weekend,” the head coach said Tony Graystone. “We’ve had a very successful autumn camp and the team is definitely ready to play. We’re going to see some of our formations well and it’ll be good to see what works and finish our preparation for the official start of the season.”

Tech returns 14 players from a season ago, with five starters still on the roster, including All-Big 12 Second Team selections Caitlin Dugan i Samantha Sanders. The Red Raiders have added five transfers: KJ Adams, Kenna Sauer, Camryn Specia, Brielle Sterns i Alexandra Torres on the list along with freshmen Maddie Correa i Madison Gilliland.

Two of the transfers, Adams and Sterns, are unknown in the state of New Mexico. Adams is the Grand Canyon Western Athletic Conference (WAC) libero of the year, while Sterns spent his first two seasons at Las Cruces with the Aggies.

The Red Raiders haven’t faced the Aggies since 2006 and haven’t traveled to Las Cruces since the 2003 season. Tech finished the 2020 season with a 9-13 record winning four of its last five games of the season. New Mexico State won 16-2 on a conference-only schedule, playing just two home games due to state restrictions COVID-19.

The match is set for 1:00 pm CST (12:00 pm MT) at the Panameric Center in Las Cruces.
