AUSTIN – The UTSA volleyball team fought to the end as it fell to Texas No. 1 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-15) Sunday afternoon at Gregory Gym.
The Longhorns started strong, advancing 7-1. UTSA managed to score a few points, but a 10-2 Texas partial extended the lead to 13 (19-6). The Roadrunners did not let the one-time deficit keep them low as they finished the first set with an 11-6 run.
Keeping the momentum going, UTSA stayed just a few points away from Texas during the second set until a couple of short runs boosted the lead preventing the Roadrunners from catching up.
The battle continued until the third set until the Longhorns took a significant lead in the second half of the set to secure the victory.
UTSA did 28 deaths and 25 excavations a day.
The Roadrunners return to action Sept. 3-3 in Oxford, Mississippi, for the Ole Miss Invitational. UTSA faces the rebels Friday at noon.
