Line: SMU -22.5, O / U 74
Both SMU and North Texas arrive in the second week, gaining major victories against minor opponents. North Texas will rely heavily on Mr. RB DeAndre Torrey to support much of the workload this week against an SMU front that allowed 4.3 yards per carry against Abilene Christian last week. SMU has a lot of experience on defense, especially on defense, but they just can’t let North Texas settle down on the ground. They have to throw Jace Ruder into the UNT QB to beat them.
SMU QB Tanner Mordecai set the school record for 7 TD passes last week in his first under-center game for SMU. SMU will extend the ball and should have no problem scoring. The North Texas defense ceded 418 yards last week to Northwestern State, so SMU will have no trouble moving the ball. SMU runners will share doors and have a day against this North Texas defense.
Look for SMU WR Reggie Roberson Jr. have more workload this week. After 3 catches last week, I hope to use more in the second week.
Prediction: SMU will score at will and leave him in North Texas to keep up with the pace they will finally be unable to do. The SMU defense may give up a couple of great plays, but it will certainly be strong enough to beat North Texas. I think it will score pretty well.
SMU 48 – 24 North Texas
