MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – The North Texas tennis doubles team Jasmine Adams i Lucie Devier passed to the quarterfinals of the 2021 Milwaukee Tennis Classic 2021 doubles draw on Saturday with a 6-2 victory.
Adams and Devier will face the nation’s No. 1 seed on Sunday in the quarterfinal round. UNT has never beaten any number 1 opponent in the country.
“Lucie and Jasmine continue to gel and build chemistry,” the head coach said Sujay Lama. “They were clean and efficient from the start. Tomorrow they have an amazing opportunity again, the nation’s No. 1 team.”
Adams and Devier also competed in singles on Saturday at the MTC. Adams, a freshman, won his first round game, 6-3, 6-2, over Luara Masic of Indiana. However, in the round of 16 Adams would fall to No. 4 ranked Carmen Corley of Oklahoma in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Devier fell in the round of 16 of the individual draw against Kristina Novak of Nebraska by 6-3, 6-4.
“Jasmine has turned many heads with her performance today against a highly ranked opponent,” Lama said. “He went from foot to foot and didn’t blink at all. The difference was the experience. He will learn from that loss and become a better player.”
On Sunday, Devier and Adams will face Oklahoma’s sister team, Ivana and Carmen Corley, in the quarterfinals of the MTC doubles draw. The sisters are number 1 in the country. The OTT aims to reach the semifinals of the MTC doubles draw for the second consecutive trip.
“I’m very proud of our way of competing and bringing ourselves together,” Lama said. “Our routines and rituals were impeccable.”
