AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Athletics and The Brandr Group (TBG) have launched a group licensing program for student-athletes from Longhorn, creating the opportunity to match their name, image and likeness with the official UT brands and logos.
“As we continue to assess opportunities for the new era of name / image / resemblance for all of our student-athletes, working alongside our legal advisor, I am pleased to announce a new agreement with Brandr to obtain brand group licenses. Texas and officially licensed goods that carry the NIL of Longhorns student-athletes, ”said UT vice president and athletics director Chris Del Conte. “Now fans can buy Texas Longhorns items like t-shirts and jerseys and support their favorite players, something we’ve never been able to do before, and student-athletes can take advantage of those sales through their deal with Brandr.”
The program allows for the collective use of student-athlete NILs in licensing and marketing programs, in conjunction with UT’s intellectual property. This creates opportunities for Texas student-athletes to join a group licensing program for three or more individuals on the same team or six or more student-athletes in multiple sports. Participation in the group rights program is voluntary and does not restrict the individual NIL rights of the student-athlete.
“The University of Texas and its amazing student-athletes have an incredible opportunity in the Name, Image and Similarity space given its history and reputation as a leading college in college athletics,” said Wesley Haynes, CEO of TBG. “We are excited to partner with The University of Texas Athletics to launch this program and to find marketing partners and licensees for Texas Athletics who want to create new cobranded programs for fans.”
TBG, a marketing, marketing and licensing management agency, will manage and administer the program, as well as develop licensing opportunities on behalf of student-athletes. Texas Athletics licenses will work in conjunction with TBG to ensure that student-athletes receive favorable opportunities and fair market value. With decades of experience in collective management for some of the world’s largest brands, TBG also manages the group rights program for NFL, NBA and MLB player associations in the college space.
Group licensing agreements have accounted for a large portion of professional merchandise sales at the professional level for decades. This program opens the door to equal opportunities for current student-athletes at the college level. Texas fans can have merchandise and other products with their school logo and the names and numbers of their favorite Longhorns.
