In what appears to be a feverish dream, Texas was absolutely manipulated by Arkansas on Saturday night, serving the No. 15 Longhorns previously ranked with a devastating 19-point loss.
Faced with their Week 3 matchup against Rice, the Longhorns have fallen to the top 25 in the latest U.S. TODAY Sports AFCA coaching poll.
That leaves only three big 12 teams in the rankings: Oklahoma (No. 3), Iowa State (No. 14) and Oklahoma State (No. 22).
TCU was among the teams looking out and currently receiving more votes for being in the top 25 than Texas.
Num. 14 of Southern California; No. 15 Texas; Num. 18 Utah; 24 of Miami.
Others receiving votes:
Miami 137; Southern California 99; Central Florida 65; Michigan State 63; Freedom 63; Texas Christian 57; Pittsburgh 52; Kentucky 50; Utah 41; Texas 36; State of Kansas 28; Indiana 28; State of Louisiana 26; Boston College 22; Nevada 18; Fresno State 13; Southern Methodist 10; Rutgers 10; UL Lafayette 9; San Diego State 9; Mississippi State 9; Army 9; Tulane 6; Maryland 6; San Jose State 5; NC State 5; Virginia 4; Marshall 4; Stanford 3; Air Force 3; Texas-San Antonio 1; Memphis 1; State of Boise 1.
The brutal loss of Week 2 of the Longhorns causes the fan base and technical staff to question the staff being used. It will take a week or two of victories to get Texas back in the standings. Arkansas was left out of the standings last week, but due to their dominant win over Texas, they are now the 24th team in the country.
Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns have a lot of work to do to recover from this.
