Texas runners take titles in Scotty Gomez’s first 5K race, and a former hockey player takes second place

Texas runners got victories in Scotty Gomez’s inaugural 5K test on Saturday at the Ship Creek track.

The eponymous hockey star of the race did not compete, but former UAA hockey player Conor Deal represented second place in the men’s race.

They won Maddy Reed of Lewisville, Texas, and Tyler Forde of Arlington, Texas.

Reed, a former Division I runner in Arkansas, won 92 seconds in 19 minutes and 45 seconds.

Forde led the men at 5:37 p.m., and Deal finished at 5:59 p.m.

The race was organized by the Scott Gomez Foundation; Gomez is an Anchorage man who won two Stanley Cups during his NHL career.
