The Hudson Card favorite to win a Texas quarterback according to the Horns247 report

For the first time in four years, someone other than Sam Ehlinger will be Texas ’starting quarterback. The two candidates, Hudson Card and Casey Thompson, have been in a battle since Steve Sarkisian was hired in January.

Fifteen spring practices, the orange and white game, and more than two weeks of fall camp resulted in no separation between the two. Sarkisian has played his hand up close, continually claiming the competition was 50/50.

Even if the head coach knew who the starting quarterback would be, it looks like the media wouldn’t be the first to know.

“If I can put my head on the pillow tonight and know who this entrant is, that’s fine,” Sarkisian said. “This does not mean that I have to tell you and announce it. But maybe I know. It would be ideal. ”

In Sarkisian’s ideal world, he never lets anyone outside the locker room know who the headline is. Whoever won the job would finish trotting against Louisiana on September 4th.

Fortunately for the rest of us, the cat may be out of the bag.

According to Chip Brown of Horns247, “key indicators point to Hudson Card being named Texas’s starting quarterback.” It is unknown when or how the official announcement will be made, or if so.

For Card, he would become another Austin native to be the Longhorns ’starting quarterback. Upon leaving Lake Travis High School, the quarterbacks factory will eventually produce one for the flagship university.

The problem in Texas is the secondary cast of Card. Outside of Bijan Robinson on his return, there will be concerns.

The wide receiver will be a problem towards the season, without any true leader. The freshman, Xavier Worthy, is everyone’s favorite candidate, but he’s never had a problem.

Joshua Moore returns as the team’s top receiver, while Jordan Whittington is expected to take the next step. Whether Troy Omeire is 100% healthy will not be known until the season opens in 10 days.

Thompson has a few options at his disposal: stay and work as a backup or transfer.

Sitting behind Card, the second red-shirt student would learn with Sarkisian for a full season. In addition, the injuries remain real. There is no promise that the card will reach a 12-match season without any blows. Thompson’s moment could come at a critical time.

Transferring with the season so close would not be beneficial. Backing up to your destination is inevitable. Hitting the portal after the season will open the doors to the talented quarterback.
