The Texas school district closes elementary school for 2 days after COVID-19 cases

MARBLE FALLS, Texas (KXAN) – The Marble Falls Independent School District in Burnet County is the last district in Texas to close a school due to COVID-19 positive cases in the community.

Marble Falls ISD announced that Highland Lakes Elementary School will close the rest of the week (August 26-27) to mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19 after staff members tested positive for the virus.

In a letter Wednesday to the Marble Falls ISD community, Superintendent Chris Allen explained that the decision was made in conjunction with the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, Burnet County Medical Authority and other local leaders.

The closure will accommodate cleaning and other types of health maintenance at the school.

Highland Lakes Elementary School is scheduled to reopen on Monday, August 30th. The rest of the campuses remain open as planned.

Superintendent Allen urges the closure to emphasize the importance of wearing face masks, washing hands and socializing distance.
