In July, Texas ’seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.2%, a decrease of 0.3 percentage points from June 2021. Texas added a total of 80,900 non-farm jobs during the month, making gains in 14 of the last 15 months. Texas added a total of 714,800 jobs as of July 2020.
“Texas has job opportunities for job seekers and the Texas Workforce Commission continues to offer and improve programs and tools to help people succeed,” said Bryan Daniel, president of TWC. “Our resources, including our focus on ending the state’s average skills gap, help ensure skilled workers for every Texas employer and upward mobility and career opportunities for all Texans.”
In July, the leisure and hospitality industry continued to grow, adding up to 20,600 jobs. Employment in professional and business services gained 11,500 jobs during the month. The manufacturing industry totaled 8,300 positions.

The Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) recorded the lowest unemployment rate in July among Texas MSAs with a non-seasonal rate of 4.0%, followed by Austin-Round Rock’s MSA. 4.2% and Sherman-Denison, 4.6%.
