The unemployment rate in the North Texas region improved in August. Figures released Friday show that the North Texas workforce development area is in better shape than the state of Texas as a whole.

The area unemployment rate in 11 counties was 4.7 percent, compared to 5.9 percent in the state. The area rate was 5.4 percent in July.

Below are the county rates:

  • Archer: 3.8 percent
  • Baylor: 3.3 percent
  • Clay: 4.5 percent
  • Cottle: 4.7 percent
  • Foard: 3.7 percent
  • Hardeman: 4.2 percent
  • Jack: 5.2 percent
  • Montague: 5 percent
  • Wichita: 4.8 percent
  • Wilbarger: 6.2 percent
  • Young: 4.4 percent

The unemployment rate in the region is improving.

While unemployment is returning to a more normal level, Kendra Ball of Workforce Solutions said the agency continues to see a shortage of staff.

“We are seeing companies shift towards a retention focus. We are supporting these efforts by providing training options for employers and their staff,” he said.

The unemployment rate in Wichita County in August was 4.8 percent compared to 5.5 percent a month earlier.
