COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas Volleyball No. 1 defeated Texas A&M by a 3-1, 25-22, 25-14, 22-25, 29-27 victory Friday night in front of a record crowd of 6,822 at Reed Arena .

The Longhorns improved to 8-0 this season and secured their second road victory. Texas had 12 blocks in the game and outscored the Aggies .322 to .178.

Logan Eggleston led Texas with 21 kills and scored .327 in the game. He also had 14 digs and four blocks to compile his sixth double-double of the season. Skylar camps he had 13 kills and four blocks for his seventh double-digit kill game of the season.

Asjia O’Neal he led the Longhorns with seven caps, his second seven-cap game of the season. He also suffered seven deaths, which amounted to .400 in the match, to go with six excavations. Brionne Butler he ended up nine dead, hit .571, and had three blocks. Molly Phillips he had eight dead and four blocks.

Jhenna Gabriel distributed 44 assists and added six excavations. Saige Ka’aha’aina-Torres he saw his first action in a Longhorns uniform, ending with four assists and one death. Nalani Josiah led Texas with 19 excavations and totaled four assists.

Texas went into a 20-16 hole in the first set before pulling out six straight points to win 22-20 and finally win the set 25-22. Eggleston had six dead, hitting .455, and three blocks in seven. Despite the narrow margin, the Longhorns outscored the Aggies .382 to .171 in the opening game.

The Longhorns dominated the second set from start to finish, jumping to a 12-5 lead and never looking back. Texas was strong on the net and had four blocks in the seven.

The third set saw Texas go into another big deficit, with a score of 16-16 before stepping back six points in a row to advance 22-21. Texas A&M finished the set in a career of its own , although it got the score 25-22.

The fourth set was hotly contested and back and forth, as the Longhorns had to hold on to a narrow 29-27 victory to get the game.

The Longhorns will return to the road next week and travel to Houston to catch Rice Wednesday at 6 p.m.
