AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Volleyball No. 1 swept Stanford No. 20, 25-22, 25-16, 25-23, in front of an exhausted crowd at Gregory Gym on Sunday.
The Longhorns improved to 4-0 this season with their third win over a nationally ranked rival during the first four games.
Logan Eggleston led Texas with 13 dead, while reaching .500 in the game. He also added five excavations and a block. Skylar camps finished with 10 dead, five excavations and a block.
Asjia O’Neal he had a great match, impacting in several respects. He ended up with seven dead, four aces and three blocks. Molly Phillips added six bushes, an excavation and a block while Brionne Butler he had three dead and a block.
Jhenna Gabriel he handed out 34 assists and finished with seven excavations, an ace and a block. Nalani Josiah he led the Longhorns with nine excavations and added a kill, two assists and an ace.
Throughout most of the first set, the Longhorns rallied late and overcame a 20-17 deficit to win it 25-22. O’Neal accounted for four of the last five points of the set, scoring two kills, a block and an ace.
The Longhorns fell 2-0 early in the second set before going ahead and leading the rest of the way to win the set comfortably.
In the third set, Texas jumped to a healthy lead and maintained a late concentration to complete the sweep.
Texas stays at home for their next three games, receiving on Tuesday at 7pm at Texas State before hosting Arizona and Notre Dame at the Gregory Gym over the weekend.
